So you want to hear a story from Grandma's childhood?
Back then, Grandma was about in second grade.
At that time, the farmers who raised cattle had to plow the fields. When they weren’t busy with the farming season, they had to drive the cattle to graze. So adults kept busy in the fields.
At that time, I would lead the cows to graze. There were no asphalt roads at that time, all was stone. When the sun baked down on that rock, it was so hot. I didn’t have any shoes to wear and the rocks were very hot on the soles of my feet. So I thought up a solution by riding one of the cows home. This way, the way back was a lot easier on grandma. I didn’t have to scald my feet on the ground. Because of the economy back then, everyone went barefoot.
Sometimes when there was still a way to go, I would lead the cows to the riverside to let them cool off a bit from the summer heat. Then, I’d ride home on one of their backs.
Sometimes when I think back on those days, they really were a tough era to live in but that’s how everyone lived at the time. Children didn’t complain, that’s how it was for everybody, taking the cows out to graze every day then taking them back home.
