The most fascinating time from my childhood
was catching bird eggs on the farm as a kid
then I put the bird's eggs in my pants
but because I went to catch frogs
and the bird eggs were big,
I stuck them in my pocket.
On the way back home in the truck
the egg broke as soon as I lifted my leg
after I broke the eggs on the right,
I lifted my left leg and the ones on the left broke too.
So both of my pockets were full of broken eggs
This left an impression on me.
Then as a child, there was the house next door,
the whole mountain of lychees at the neighbor's house
We’d all quietly climb up into the trees to hide
and roar from the trees
some people probably couldn’t make it up there.
The one that was more than 50 years old
was planted by his grandmother
so I’d climb up there and get my fill of lychees
before coming down,
it was hard to get caught.
This was an amusing time as a kid.
And during my childhood
when the rice fields were sold out,
we’d pluck roots from the paddies
and throw them at each other
from behind mounds of dirt.
There was a moat in the middle
and the children would throw back and forth
back and forth.
And as a kid, I used to play with skyrockets
As for the Mandarin duck [firecrackers]
we’d just put them in order
and throw them around at each other.
We’d run at each other with them
and then hurry off.
You could get your hands blown up this way
but because at the time firecrackers weren’t very big,
your hands would just be sore and black
but not seriously hurt.
And then there was riding bicycles,
going fishing,
going to the river to fish,
and then swimming, swimming.
And a snake that came up next to me
out of nowhere
scared me to death
When I was a kid
I also used to stomp in the mud
and there were clams all on the ground,
I could pick them up with both feet
So there was the fishing, cycling,
going everywhere to play,
hiking.
Things I used to do as a kid.
And as a kid, I grew up in the Tucheng, Banqiao,
where I spent my elementary school years.
When I was in middle school
I attended Banquiao Chongqing Middle School.
This was a fun time for me.
At that time, there wasn’t academic pressure
so after elementary school class let out
I wrote about going out to play wherever I could,
playing cards,
marbles,
drawing lines in the dirt
to play baseball,
real childhood memories.

This work is about my dad when he was a kid on the farm and in the countryside. We can see people riding bicycles, pulling straw, and playing cards. Their faces look very happy and there is no trouble or suspicion of each other. They also make others feel good when they laugh together. I used to live in the countryside and I was happy every day. So I want to show how people used to live. I want people to see this. When I created these works, I felt that my previous life was very colorful and very fun. I also hope that when you read my works, you should try to make your life less urgent, relax your pace, and then go for a walk when you have the time. Naturally let your mind relax and when you find the time, go live in the country and experience the slow pace of life to make you less stressed. Leave the noisy city to appreciate the beauty of life outside the city. I suggest finding a no-stress, no-work place without a lot of things to worry about. This is what I want my work to convey to the people who see this work.
