This series introduced students to “sense of place” as a framework for understanding how environments shape identity, memory, and personal narratives.
Students began with a guided community walk through surrounding neighborhoods, parks, and campus spaces—many of which they had not previously explored—using observation, sketching, and discussion to examine how everyday places influence how they feel, move, and belong. The final project was an open-format creation in which students interpreted place through a medium of their choice, including drawing, digital illustration, 3D modeling, clay sculpture, photography, and video essays engaging the five senses.
